北京宣言30周年纪念活动

Reflecting on 30 Years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action

The upcoming 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action marks an important moment to assess progress in advancing gender equality. Adopted in 1995 during the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, the declaration set comprehensive goals to improve women’s rights in areas such as education, health, economic participation, and the elimination of violence against women. Endorsed by 189 countries, it remains a cornerstone of global feminist advocacy.

Beijing+30 and Baturu

For Baturu, this anniversary underscores the ongoing relevance of feminist advocacy. Founded as a grassroots feminist organisation, Baturu promotes gender equality through the arts, providing a platform for feminist voices and cultural exchange. The Baturu Cultural Festival in Bangkok, held alongside the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, connected the themes of Beijing+30 with contemporary feminist art and activism.

By bringing together young feminist artists from across the Asia-Pacific region, the festival aimed to highlight both the progress made and the challenges that persist in achieving gender equality.

In alignment with Beijing+30, Baturu is developing a feminist cultural network across the Asia-Pacific region. This network will support emerging feminist artists by providing platforms and funding, foster collaboration with international organisations such as UN Women and the Goethe-Institut, and promote sustainable feminist practices through workshops, institutional visits, and collaborative projects. By creating lasting connections, the network aims to amplify feminist art movements and ensure that gender equality remains a focus in the cultural discourse.

As the Beijing Declaration turns 30, Baturu is committed to ensuring its principles continue to guide feminist advocacy. The festival and its initiatives will serve as a platform to address ongoing gender inequalities and celebrate the contributions of feminist artists. Through collaboration and cultural exchange, Baturu aims to build a stronger foundation for gender equality in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
